Ingredients for Hot Spiced Apple Cider

Note: I used a 3 quart slow cooker for this recipe, like this one.

2 Quarts (about 8 cups) Apple Cider

6-8 Cinnamon Sticks

1 Orange

2 Tablespoons Whole Cloves

Optional Ingredients: You can pretty much make up glasses or mugs of this cider with anything at all. Place fruit inside (orange slices are always good), additional cinnamon sticks, or even sprigs of herbs. During the holidays fresh cranberries also make a great addition.

Directions for Making Hot Spiced Apple Cider

Pour the apple cider into the slow cooker inner bowl.

Add the cinnamon sticks.

Take the orange, and with a toothpick poke holes around the orange. As you poke the holes insert a whole clove into the hole.  The holes should be about an inch to an inch and a half apart.

Place the orange into the apple cider inside the slow cooker.

Cook on low heat setting for about 4 hours or so.

You can continue to keep this on warm during any gathering, so that it stays nice and hot for everyone.

How To Serve the Hot Spiced Apple Cider

Provide cups (heat proof) for your guests to ladle the cider into. These cups are ideal and I have used these myself. Or if you have enough mugs in your home, you could use them also.

You could also set up each mug/cup with a cinnamon stick inside, so your guests can use the cinnamon stick to stir the mixture when served. Or pour some powdered cinnamon on a plate, paint some egg yolk across the rim of each glass/cup, and dip into the powdered cinnamon.

Notes:

If the Apple Cider runs out, or gets low, just refill with another quart or more of apple cider. The spices already in the cider will permeate through. It is best to refill while there is still some apple cider left, so it already has the spices mixed in.

I always use organic ingredients in this apple cider, as it soaks for so long.
