So why am I doing a post on why I use the Genesis framework for my WordPress theme? Yes I am an affiliate for StudioPress who produces the Genesis theme, but believe me that is far from the reason why I am writing this post on why you should use the Genesis framework. As a blogger to another blogger I really feel this is important information that you need. I know you will thank me for this recommendation, I have absolutely no doubt.
In the several years since I started my blog I have dabbled with many different themes. I have spent (probably far too much) money purchasing themes that I thought would work well for my blog. I really feel that by now I am in a good position to know what has frustrated me, what hasn’t worked for me, and above all what HAS worked for me and has not frustrated me.
I started out using a Genesis framework parent theme with a child theme when I first started my blog. I was a complete beginner. I really didn’t know that much about WordPress, starting a blog, or even much at all about this part of using computers and technology.
I set up my first website for my blog fairly easily. I loved what I had for a few months, but then I started looking around at other themes. I was being led astray by shiny themes that seemed to do everything that mine didn’t. I liked the colors better, I liked the layouts better etc. So I purchased (spending more money yet again) other themes. I tried them all out. Some of them were themes used by other bloggers that I loved – but my blog didn’t end up looking as good as theirs. I shopped around for all different kinds of themes, and purchased and used many of them.
But I was just still so frustrated. Why couldn’t I do things that I wanted to do with the new theme I had purchased? Why was there a lack of functionality with the theme I had just purchased and installed?
Then one day it dawned on me what the issue was. I had started out using a Genesis parent and child theme, which had so many customizable features. I was used to being able to do so much with theme customization and now I couldn’t because I was using different themes that were not using the Genesis framework. I know this might sound crazy, but honestly – I suddenly had a lightbulb moment. Using Genesis first and then switching to other (less customizable) themes was just like having a meal in an top restaurant, and then having a meal in a fast food outlet – there was no comparison, and having the well-cooked meal first meant that nothing else would ever taste the same as that good meal!
So I became an affiliate for StudioPress, because I believe so strongly in their Genesis framework. I won’t ever go back to not using the Genesis framework, because I know it is what I want and need. Because there are so many child themes also that work alongside the Genesis framework I know that I can always find a theme that I want and that works well for me. So I want to bring this to your attention, to a fellow blogger’s attention. I really feel very strongly that the Genesis framework with a child theme is the ultimate best theme you can use for your blog:
Genesis is used everywhere
There are over 500,000 WordPress sites that are currently being powered by Genesis. That makes me feel pretty secure – knowing that so many users are choosing it. That means that any issues are quickly found and repaired, because so many users are involved. It also is testament to the fact that so many people trust StudioPress to take care of their website’s theme. The founder of WordPress himself also recommends the Genesis framework – it can’t get better than that.
Genesis has great SEO practices
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is vitally important to any and every website. This determines where your site will rank in Google searches. If it doesn’t rank well, you won’t be found – it is as simple as that. The Genesis framework has always been well optimized for SEO, and it is all built into the actual framework. All StudioPress themes have been fully search optimized by a search engine optimizer pioneer and industry expert. What’s more, automatic SEO optimization updates are constantly done to the Genesis framework, so you never have to worry about your code being up to date.
Genesis has great customization options
Genesis really does offer a lot of different options for customizing your site. There are many layout options offered with most child themes, including different sidebar placement options, having different footers and sidebars on certain pages. Genesis also fully incorporates many widget options for all over your site, giving even more creative options.
StudioPress constantly creates new Genesis child themes
This means that there is always a new choice available if you want/need it. New themes constantly use newer technology and features, so you can always be sure that you are staying ahead of the trends.
StudioPress offers great support
Studio Press support really is the best, and I speak here from personal experience. If you know me at all by now you will know that I only promote companies and services that I use myself, or have used, and who offer the best customer support. Customer support really is the most important thing to me. A company who puts out a product and then offers little to no support to users who have gone to the trouble of purchasing and using their products are really not friends of mine. StudioPress also doesn’t differentiate between the developer who is running tons of websites, and the single user with just one website – everyone is treated equally in terms of support and help.
StudioPress has enhanced security in its themes
Studio Press knows how important your site’s security is, and they have worked with security experts to ensure that Genesis has the ultimate and latest security features. Studio Press follows all the latest WordPress security best practices.
Frequent updates are available
Genesis is frequently updated and enhanced, which means that any bugs are quickly taken care of, and security and other features are constantly being updated and reviewed. All their updates are tested thoroughly before they are launched on users, so you can be sure that when that latest update becomes available it won’t be full of bugs and issues.
Genesis is simple to use
This is majorly important, not just to beginners, but also to more advanced WordPress users and webmasters. Who needs a huge learning curve when trying to set up a website? Genesis proves that simple is best. StudioPress offers a lot of tutorials, instruction and support in setting up a theme and site. The ease and simplicity of the Genesis framework also means less time spent in work hours trying to get a website up and running.
Genesis supports monetization
Most Genesis child themes are fully set up to insert and run advertising, a major source of income for many sites. It is very easy to insert ads into the widget areas in child themes.
So that is why I have gone to the trouble of writing this post. Genesis can make your life so much easier as a blogger. There is enough to do and learn as a blogger and when starting a blog, we need all the help we can get!
