I try to run as many 5K races as I can. I am not the fastest runner, and I can’t say that I really totally enjoy every minute of them (I like the feeling of the runner’s high afterwards and the sense of accomplishment), but I do love to do them whenever I can.
Even when I just run by myself around my neighborhood or on my treadmill, I always try to run at least a 5K. I usually always hit a wall right in the middle, where I think that I can’t to on – and really have to push myself through that wall.
One of the things that really helps to get through a run is music. I used to put shuffle on and just listen to whatever came up on my iPhone, but a lot of the songs weren’t really good running songs, and I always had to hit the next song button to get a better song. That isn’t always easy to fiddle with when you are in the middle of running!
So I came up with the ultimate running 5K playlist for myself. Now I just play this playlist when I am running the 5K distance. I don’t always listen to the set list as it is arranged, I do hit shuffle sometimes to change it around a bit more. I really find that this playlist helps me get through a run. Many of these songs are really inspiring for getting through something hard, or the music just really suits a good long run.
This playlist is 53 minutes long – which is more time than most of us are going to take running a 5k (I take about 30 minutes – which I know isn’t great, but I am not aiming to win the race, just to have fun and accomplish something). But as long as it is it gives some variety to what songs to play.
